Wise
Men Still Seek Him . “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom…” (Proverbs 9:10). After
Jesus was born, the Bible tells us in Matthew chapter two that Wise Men came from the East to bow before Him and worship Him.
They went to great lengths just to get a glimpse of the child and traveled a long distance for many months, following the
star. When they saw Him, they were so overwhelmed. The scripture says they fell to their faces to honor and worship
Him.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. That means that we should have a reverential honor
and respect for Him—just like the Wise Men did. We are wise when we set everything else in life aside in order
to seek Him. We are wise when we worship Him and give Him everything that we are. We are wise when we take time
to honor Him. Remember, God is a rewarder of the people who diligently seek after Him. As you continue to
put Him first in all you do, you’ll increase in wisdom and discernment, and you’ll move forward into
the life of blessing He has in store for you. Prayer: Father in heaven, I choose wisdom. I choose to put You first
and seek You in all that I do. I honor You and bless Your name. Thank You for the many blessing You have prepared
for me. In Jesus’ Name. Amen. . ,
Commentary:
What do you need today? Do you need guidance or counsel about a particular situation? Do you need an
Almighty Presence in your life, an Everlasting Father, a Prince of Peace? Through Jesus Christ, we can have all that, and
more.
One of the reasons Jesus was sent to this earth was to be your Wonderful Counselor. When you accept
Jesus as your Lord and Savior, the Counselor comes to live inside you by the Holy Spirit. Sometimes day to day
problems weigh us down and we don't know where to turn, but Jesus is always there to counsel and guide us. But you should
know that He’s not just any kind of counselor. He's the Wonderful Counselor. He is full of wonder and
amazement and He’s truly extraordinary. You will also find that He’s the very best counselor you could
have because He knows all things! He knows your hurts, your pain, your joy. He knows when you laugh, when you
cry, when you need a friend. And He's always there, right by your side, to walk with you, to talk with you, and to lead
you along the way. Do you need counsel regarding your job, your relationships or an important decision? Do
you need a counselor to act as your defender today? You can call on the Wonderful Counselor, and He will be there, anytime,
night or day. You can call on him with assurance. You won't receive a voice mail, but what you will
recieve is His caring heart, His loving touch, and His awesome presence. If you open your heart
and let Him show you His wisdom, you will receive His counsel from the Word of God and also from the godly
people in your life. As you seek Him with an open heart, He promises to lead and guide you. He promises to show
you the paths of life so that you can live in victory the way God intends!
Not only is He your Wonderful Counselor,
He is your Everlasting Father. When you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you become His Child, a child of the Most
High God, and you instantly have an Everlasting Father! When you think about
the word everlasting, you realize that before the beginning of time, the Father was there. He was waiting
for you to accept Him and become His child. I can imagine that He was excited and anticipating that day, just like
an earthly father would anticipate the birth of a newborn child. I can imagine He would think everyday, “Is
it today?” Is this the day that my child will accept me and come to me? I don’t know what your experience has
been with your earthly father, but God is a good and perfect Father. He loves you with an everlasting love, and the
best part of all is that it is UNCONDITIIONAL. He loves everything about you so much that He notices when a single hair
falls from your head. The Bible says that His thoughts of you are more than the number of grains of sand upon the beach.
He accepts you just the way you are, and He loves you enough to guide you and work His character in you. And, He will
be your Father from now throughout eternity! He will never leave you nor forsake you!
He is also our Almighty God, and our Prince of Peace. When things go crazy in your life and you don't know which
way to turn, He can restore Peace to your life and give you an awesome sense of His presence. I don't know how He does
it, but He can give you a peace that passes understanding, and even though you won't understand it, it will be there, deep
within you, and you will know from where it came.
In Him, we have a Wonderful Counselsor, An Almighty God,
An Everlasting Father, a Prince of Peace, and so much more. As we enter into the new year, and the rest of our lives,
we truly have so much to be thankful for. If you don't know Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, I invite you
now to accept Him, ask Him to come into your life and fill you with the joy and peace that only He can give. And I promise,
Your life will never be the same.
God Bless you and may He bestow His richest blessings upon you in the coming
year, and all the days ahead.

Stories to Touch the Heart
and Warm the Soul:
THE
AFTER-CHRISTMAS SALE Bible Reading: Colossians 3: 8-15
"Look at my new sweater!" said Brianne, holding it up for her father to see. "You should see all the stuff
Mom and I got on sale today. Cheap, too!"
Mom sighed. "Yes," she agreed, "but it was such a hassle getting through the crowds
at the mall and pawing through the
piles of clothes, that I wondered at times if it was really worth it. But as Brianne says, it was cheap! It makes you wonder how the stores can afford to sell things
at those prices."
"They know what they're
doing," Dad assured her. "They're clearing out things that are no longer profitable and making room to restock their shelves with new things
that people want,
things they can sell to make money. Right now, they're selling off winter stuff to make room for spring merchandise." He paused for a moment. "I think we could
take a lesson from them," he added.
"Like what?" asked Brianne curiously.
"There are things on the 'shelves' of our lives that we should clear out from time to time," explained Dad
as he reached for his
Bible. "Let's read about them for our devotions tonight." He turned to the book of Colossians and read Chapter 3: 8-15.
"Hearing those verses makes me feel guilty for getting
angry at
some pushy women in the store today," confessed Mom. "I need to get rid of anger from the 'shelves' of my life."
"How much do you suppose we can sell our bad qualities
for?" asked Brianne with a mischievous grin.
Dad smiled. "Forget having a sale and just trash them," he advised. "And let's not forget to restock
our 'shelves' with things
that are pleasing to God, like compassion, kindness, gentleness and patience."
Brianne nodded. "We can sell those things for a whole lot more than the old stuff we're getting rid of,
don't you think?" she
asked with an innocent air.
"All right! All right!"
said Dad. "So my comparison doesn't hold up in every detail." He grinned at his daughter, and she grinned back. "But it is important for us to be alert
and willing to replace
old, bad traits with new, wholesome ones," added Dad. "Then we'll be able to keep showing God's love to others, and pointing them to Him."
Memorize: Colossians 3:9-10 "Put off the old man . . . put on the new man".
How About You?
What traits are found on the "shelves" of your life? Do you need to get rid of things like lying, bad language,
or a desire to
get even with someone? Do you need to add kindness, a forgiving spirit, friendliness, or some other good quality? Ask God right now to show you what changes need to
be made-and to
help you make them. Start the New Year by discarding old, sinful attitudes and adding the things that please God.
